National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) is started as an agricultural college in 1919, NCHU has long served as a cradle of Taiwan’s conventional agricultural prowess by providing top notch and innovative agriculturalists throughout its historic growth. Today, NCHU has evolved into a research-oriented university renowned for its agricultural biotechnology, precision engineering, environmental engineering and material science programs, while maintaining its status as a key player in conventional agriculture research.  The total student enrollment is more than 16,000, of which over 42% are graduate students. NCHU is located in Taichung City covers an area of approximately 53 hectares.  It also has four experimental forests, two farms and one station which are distributed in different areas of Taiwan.

Among those academic programs, International Master Program of Agriculture (IMPA), is a master program independent from all other departments and institutes within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR).  IMPA is one of all-English programs in NCHU.  In 2011, the Ministry of Education in Taiwan evaluated IMPA as “highly recommended” among all the all-English curriculum programs in Taiwan’s universities. IMPA is also one of the assigned academic programs cooperated with International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) for the “International Higher Education Scholarship Program”.  IMPA is supported by all the academic units in CANR.  IMPA students’ future thesis adviser may come from one of the academic departments or graduate institutes within the College.
